The CSA has received a few questions from members asking if people with AS/SpA will prioritized to receive the vaccine as it is considered a “Chronic Condition”.
We reached out to our medical advisors and received the following response:
“At the present time there is no evidence that AS patients, whether or not on biologics, have an increased risk of COVID, nor have worse outcomes after COVID infection. Physicians are obliged to follow the Ministry of Health priority listing, which applies both to patients and the general public. At present, age is the primary factor in such priority setting for vaccination. None of the vaccines which will be available in Canada are live vaccines, thus we regard the vaccines as safe, whether or not a patient is on a biologic. “
